Almost every day I see kayakers paddling up Corte Madera Creek, meandering along and wearing big smiles. It turns out that almost all of them are starting from the Outback Adventures store and dock near the Larkspur Landing ferry terminal, along Corte Madera Creek. This is where you can rent single and double kayaks on an hourly basis and get out on the water right away without any instruction.
They also rent sea kayaks, but only to experienced kayakers. If that’s your category, you can take them out into the Bay, out the ferry channel and along Corte Madera Marsh.
Something they also offer, that is really cool and very popular, are their Moonlight Paddles and Sunset Tours, which are both guided tours. The Moonlight Paddle takes place at the full moon, about an hour before moonrise, and depending on the make-up of the kayakers and the tide, the guide may go up Corte Madera Creek or out into the Bay along Corte Madera Marsh. Similarly, the Sunset Tour starts about an hour before sundown and usually goes out into the Bay, since the tour guide is there to help less experienced kayakers with those rougher waters. Both tours last about 2-1/2 hours.
