47. Mill Valley Aquatics & Fitness Center

Mill Valley has arguably the best Aquatics & Fitness Center in Marin (for a public facility). Even without that last caveat, it’s a fantastic indoor facility with unbelievable ambiance, light and features.

As you can see above, the pool room is flooded with light from three sides plus a massive skylight overhead. There’s also an adjacent walled-in exterior patio for sunbathing. And while days like today don’t immediately bring to mind scantily clad sun worshipers, they do cause people to think about venues for indoor exercise and kid-friendly energy burning activities.

The “everyone-is-welcome” admission policy combined with the inexpensive drop-in fees make this a super alternative for exercising in inclement as well as gorgeous weather. There are lap swim hours every day, plus water aerobics classes Monday – Thursday twice/day and once on Fridays. And, on the weekends, both afternoons are devoted to Open Swim with the Water Slide (very cool, very long slide). The fitness room has all of the standard equipment and it, too, is high-ceilinged and light-filled.

And, if you’re looking for a kids birthday party venue, they offer over a dozen different birthday party packages, depending on the time of year, from pool parties to magic to sports themes. It’s a fun and practically effortless way to throw a fantastic party with no house to clean up ahead of time or afterwards.
