57. Hal Brown Park

If you haven’t been over to see the newly re-opened (and re-named) Hal Brown Park at Creekside along Corte Madera Creek in Kentfield across from Marin General Hospital, you’re missing a really lovely place. Hal Brown Park is an exceptionally well planned and executed small park, with a number of separated functional areas, all of which are woven together beautifully with meandering pathways, gradual elevation changes and a wonderful palette of native plants.

There is a beautiful grassy field, picnic tables and benches scattered throughout, a sand-pit with climbing and rope structures, a tranquil seating area looking out towards the creek and over to Mt. Tam, paved pathways for wheelchairs, trikes and small bicycles, drinking fountains and restrooms. Users of all ages and interests will have at least one special place to come and enjoy, and for some there will be multiple spots.

In these days of lots of belt-tightening, it’s uplifting to experience a project that clearly was designed and executed with quality and longevity as primary goals. Be sure to get out and enjoy it as soon as the clouds lift!

Where: Bon Air Road, Kentfield, across from Marin General Hospital (map)
