68. Burritoville Cafe – Larkspur

When we first moved to Larkspur in the early ’90’s, some friends told us about a cafe that they loved downtown called Burritoville. It sounded very gringo to us, so we delayed going for years. But, as good fortune would have it, we eventually did try it – and have been regular (weekly, I confess) customers ever since.

It’s a very casual place, with brightly painted walls, signage and murals, a tiled floor and casual wood furniture, and big glass windows opening onto the sidewalk. In warm weather they put tables and chairs on the sidewalk for outdoor dining.

A steady stream of customers come in all day long, from high school kids grabbing a quick burrito on lunch break to busy parents grabbing dinner to-go on their way home. Since it’s right on Magnolia Avenue, near the Lark Theatre, it also gets a lot of walk-in business from downtown shoppers and business owners.

My favorite burrito is the Super Steak with black beans and hot salsa. It comes with sour cream, guacamole and cheese (yum). They’ve got very tasty fresh salsa, which to me is a pre-requisite for a burrito joint or tacqueria worth returning to. I like the hot salsa, which really isn’t that hot, but the mild is good too.  Yes, they have other menu items, but burritos are their main stays.
