73. Indian Valley Golf Course

I haven’t been able to locate any stats on the number of golfers in Marin, but suffice it to say that there are a lot of them, of all ages. I confess that I am not a golfer – I’ve had a few lessons but never the time to actually become proficient – but my husband and older son and lots of my friends love the sport. And you don’t have to belong to a private club to have access to some beautiful and challenging public courses here in Marin.

Indian Valley Golf Course is one of these beauties, and lies on the outskirts of Novato in the rolling hills next to Stafford Lake Park. The course is surrounded by open space and you’ll often see wild turkeys, deer and lots of birds. It’s really quiet and you’re not going to hear any traffic-related distractions.

If you do a lot of golfing, they have some memberships that are a great value with the Monday-Friday option being the best deal (naturally). And, if you like the socializing/networking opportunities that leagues offer, there are four clubs for those purposes (2 for women, 2 for men). And, if you’re looking to tune up your game, they have two golf pros who offer lessons, one of whom is fluent in Spanish.

They also have a well stocked pro shop and a restaurant/bar, with the bar staying open until sunset. The restaurant stops serving food at 3:00.
