97. Bovine Bakery

Point Reyes Station has a very cool bakery with a great attitude regarding who it is and what it serves. It’s Bovine Bakery, in the heart of the town.

First, how many coffee shops have you been in that have a wall cubby holder for its customers own coffee mugs? It’s the first I’ve seen. To me it says that it’s a place first and foremost for the local customers who patronize it again and again. It honors their business by giving them (via their coffee mugs) a position of honor and status. Who wouldn’t feel just a big smug taking down their mug while the sweaty bikers and tourists wait in line for their paper cups?

Second, regarding espresso versus drip coffee, Bovine Bakery states (with attitude) that “this is an espresso-free establishment” and backs it up by serving excellent coffee.

Now, as to the baked goods, this place has a ton of raving fans, and not just regarding one or two of its offerings. Their scones are some of the best in the county, and their chocolate croissants, bear claws, morning buns and sourdough bread all get consistent off-the-charts reviews. If you’re looking for lunch, they’ve got savory items like pizza and quiche, too.

So, the next time you’re in Point Reyes Station and need a bite to eat, this is the place to go.
