This weekend is the first annual Dwell + Marin Magazine Modern Home Tour here in Marin County. It’s a two day event, kicked off with a cocktail reception tonight at the Acqua Hotel with the architects who designed the homes. It features homes throughout Southern and Central Marin, including a hand-built Sausalito houseboat and a completely renovated Lucas Valley Eichler.
While the price tag of $75 for a one-day pass or $150 for two-days plus the reception may seem a bit steep, it’s actually a very cheap and efficient way to see all sorts of materials, finishes, fixtures, appliances, landscape features etc., in actual installations in our local Marin environment. So, for example, if you are thinking of a remodeling project, this tour is a fantastic opportunity to get ideas, find a good architect or maybe even eliminate an item that you decide you don’t like so much once you’ve seen it installed.
You can still purchase tickets online, and your choices are either the single day ticket to see just half (five) of the homes, or the weekend ticket to all ten homes as well as tonight’s reception. The homes will be hosted by architects and docents. Saturday’s tour features homes in Sausalito, Mill Valley and Tiburon, including Dwell Magazine founder Lara Deam’s home. Sunday’s tour has homes in Larkspur, San Anselmo, San Rafael and Lucas Valley.
