121. Fairfax Scoop

Ah, finally really having a nice hot weekend! And that, of course, means that ice cream sounds like a real treat at the end of the day. So, naturally, head on down to the Fairfax Scoop, for the freshest ice cream and cones around.

They make their waffle cones and cups fresh daily, and the aroma wafts out onto the sidewalk drawing the crowds closer. Crowds is definitely the operative word here on a hot day. Expect long lines, lots of bouncy, happy kids, and plenty of time to decide what flavor you want.

I like that a single can consist of not just one but two flavors, because I usually can’t decide on only one and this way I don’t have to. They also offer a “kids” single, which is a smaller cone and single scoop, nicely proportioned for younger kids with smaller appetites and less skill balancing a ball of ice cream on a cone.

They do some unique things too, like offering custom flavors for parties where you can get a bucket-sized container for $65, or their waffle cones in groups of 10 for $1/each. Both require 7 days notice.

Even when lines are long the people are happy; I guess it’s hard to be grumpy when you’re out for ice cream.
