146. Memorial Day Parade, Pancake Breakfast, Party

This year’s annual Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade is really a triple party lasting from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in several key locations and along a 1.6 mile parade route.

The day kicks off at 7:00 a.m. with the all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast out front of the fire station and City Hall on Corte Madera Avenue, which will be closed to traffic for the morning. The breakfast features pancakes, eggs, orange juice and coffee and lasts until 11:00. In the past, they’ve served between 1,800 and 2,000 breakfasts.

At 10:30, the parade gets started at Old Mill School and heads down Throckmorton Avenue, turning at the Depot to go by the judges stand. “Best” Prizes will be awarded for Car, Business, Dog, Music, Novelty/Comedy, Youth Group, and Overall. From the judging stand, the parade heads down Miller Avenue and ends at Tam High School at Camino Alto.

The “After Party” is held at the Mill Valley Community Center from noon ’til 4:00 p.m. However, it’s hardy an after-thought! This is the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Community Center, and is a great event in and of itself. There will be jumpees, music, food, refreshments, puppets, animals, raffles and magic. Entry, entertainment and music are all free.
