The place to be this coming weekend is Fairfax, with two simultanous festivals going on and warm weather forecast. It’s the 34th annual Fairfax Festival and the Fairfax Ecofest, and they take place right alongside each other at Bolinas Park & Peri Park (map). The theme is “staying local” which is perfect for Marin and especially for Fairfax, where the locals really live this theme year-round.
Ecofest kicks off the celebration weekend on Friday night at 8;30 with a free family film, Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. It will be shown on the baseball field, and with the wet weather we’ve had you’ll want to either bring chairs or a waterproof ground cover to sit on.
The Fairfax Festival kicks off its festivities with the infamous Parade starting at 10:00 and running about 2 hours. This is followed by an awesome music line-up playing on two stages. At the same time, the Ecofest will have live music on the lawn behind the Pavilion. All these bands explain why the festival won “Best Marin Music Festival” from the Pacific Sun in 2010.
The Ecofest will have over 40 organic wineries and breweries at their tasting event, as well as dozens of green/eco-friendly exhibitors, including lots of non-profit organizations. There are a ton of other activities including a flea market, dozens of food booths, arts and crafts booths, face painting, jumpies and more. It really is an amazing event and you won’t want to miss it!
