I have a bit of crow to eat. It seems that a vigilant reader of 365 Things to Do in Marin noticed my blog yesterday stating that there are no bowling alleys in Marin and therefore I had to write about a place outside Marin. Said vigilant reader pointed out that there is a bowling alley in San Rafael: Country Club Bowl. Ouch! How is it that I was so unaware?!? Many thanks to James Campbell for clueing me in.
Naturally, I had to head over today to check it out, and a wave of nostalgia washed over me as I stepped inside. While it’s very clean and neat, it definitely has an older vibe to it. There’s ’70’s music playing, a wall full of 50+ year-old memorabilia, and 70’s era wall graphics (“super graphics”, I believe they were called).
I chatted at the counter with one of their employees and she said that if you’re looking for a more lively scene, especially for a 20’s – 30’s crowd, is after 9:00 on Friday and Saturday nights. This also coincides with the Summer Friday and Saturday night $1.00 special. From 6:00 – 11:00 p.m., for a cover charge of $11.00, which includes shoe rental, each game you bowl is only $1.00, as is each beer, each soda and each slice of cheese pizza. So, if you bowl 2 or more games, it’s a good deal for the bowling alone. The added bonus is they play current music for these five hours.
They’ve got 40 lanes, with bumper bowling, a must for young kids and the kids birthday party crowd.
I’m glad to know Marin has a solid bowling alley, and will be back to bowl soon.
