187. Buckeye Roadhouse

The legendary Buckeye Roadhouse restaurant/bar has been around since 1937 and yet it feels as new and stylish (in a rustic way) as any good Marin restaurant. And, contrary to what you might expect with a long-established restaurant, its clientele is decidedly on the young and hip (for Marin!) side. The food is great and the service is super friendly.

The bar has an intimate atmosphere, with tables along the side that you can dine at. The main dining room has a high vaulted and half-timbered ceiling with lots of tall windows and a big stone fireplace. They call it “Aspen lodge” style (OK, a bit pretentious with the “Aspen” thing).

Oh, and there’s usually plenty of free parking in the evenings and weekends in the commuter lot across the road from the restaurant. Just don’t get hit by the cars revving up to get onto the freeway! If you prefer not to take your lives in your hands, there’s valet parking, too.

They’re also open in the morning for “drive-by” coffee and pastries, but I haven’t tried this.
