215. Mill Valley Golf Course

Tucked into a small valley in the hills on the north side of Mill Valley lies the Mill Valley Municipal Golf Course and Club. It’s a beautiful and quiet 9-hole course which is laid out to take advantage of the natural contours of this T-shaped valley. It is spotted with both oaks and redwoods, and there are scenic vistas including Mt. Tam from several holes. A lovely creek runs down the valley spine with several of the holes crossing over it.

This course started life as a private club in 1919, but then the Depression hit and membership collapsed. Mill Valley voters finally approved the city acquiring it for $25,000 in 1938. It’s now run by the Mill Valley Parks and Recreation Department. It is a very charmingly modest place, and the Green fees are also very modest – just $14 for Mill Valley residents and $19 for non-residents on the weekends.

In keeping with the simplicity of it, there are no golf carts. You can book tee times for two or more players up to one week in advance.
