Today was a glorious day for working in the garden – a bit of dead-heading the old blooms, cutting back grasses that have soared with the last month’s sun, transplanting some unexpected volunteers, and planting some colorful annuals on the deck. The perfect place to start with these activities in mind is West End Nursery on 5th Avenue in San Rafael.
This is the oldest nursery in Marin County, and it’s easy to see why it continues to flourish. It’s a very large site, with over an acre of plants, plus statuary and fountains, and a large store with garden accessories, gardening supplies, and indoor plants and accessories. And for those who can’t resist garden gnomes, they’ve got quite a selection!
I brought my supplies home and now have about a dozen new pots filled with colorful and fragrant flowering plants on the decks. What a great way to have spent my day!
