If it’s been going on for 33 years, you know that the Sausalito Chili Cook Off must draw some excellent competitors, and produce some seriously good chili for the 1000+ visitors expected to attend. It gets started early, next Sunday, September the 25th, at Dunphy Park, with chefs setting up their booths and firing up their burners before 8:00 a.m. Cooking proceeds throughout the morning, and at noon tasting and judging gets started.
For a mere $10, you can buy a wristband that gets you unlimited chili, and some dry chili beans to vote for your favorite chili. I’ve heard that some booths trade beans for drinks (alcoholic), so I’m not sure how legit the voting actually is. However, it’s a lot of fun and it will be interesting to see who competes this year and what the booths look like.
There are three prizes, all donated by the event sponsor, Heath Ceramics:
- Most Creative (Best Booth)
- Judges’ Choice: A panel of judges picks their favorite
- People’s Choice: The chili getting the most beans by the public chili tasters
