The bells and beeps and flashing lights of pinball machines still draw me towards them even as they did when I was a kid and loved to play. This weekend’s Pacific Pinball Expo is a rare opportunity to completely indulge oneself in pinball playing, with free play offered on the 100+ pinball machines set up at the Marin Civic Center Exhibition Hall in San Rafael.
The machines range from 19th century antiques that were the precursors to the 20th century electric games, to 21st century “Tron” themed machines. There’s no time limit on how long you can play on a machine, so you can stake out your favorite game and play to your heart’s content.
Even on this work day, the place was crowded at lunch and the parking lot full, so you can anticipate that Saturday’s and Sunday’s crowds will be larger. Note that the event is not in the round domed Auditorium, but is in the exhibition hall to the east, which has a separate and more convenient parking lot.
