I was attracted to the Ross Valley Players because of their venue, a wonderful old converted barn at the back of the Marin Art & Garden Center called, you guessed it, the Barn Theater. The current show is “Don’t Dress for Dinner”, which is a ’60’s era French farce that features some good local talent, my favorite being Melissa Claire as Suzette, shown above with Tavis Kammet as Robert.
The barn is an intimate theater with no seat far from the stage. It’s also very informal, with cookies, nuts, wine and water sold at the side of the seating area before the show and during intermission. The staff and volunteers are all very friendly, and you get the sense that this organization cares very deeply about its community of performers and patrons. I find it a very welcoming, comfortable atmosphere, and a great change from the movie theater.
It’s easy to order tickets online, and they’ll hold them at will-call. Seating is non-reserved, so get there when the box office opens to get the best seats.
