290. Roy’s Redwoods Open Space Preserve

Just north of San Geronimo Golf Course lies Roy’s Redwoods Open Space Preserve, an easy-to-access hiking area with wonderful rings of Redwood trees and a huge hollowed out ancient Redwood tree trunk. This tree trunk has been a hang-out for decades of Marin youth, and there are many great memories that go along with this place and, as you can imagine, many that can’t be re-told.

Horses, dogs and bikes are all welcome in the preserve; just keep your dogs (up to 3 of them) on leash. The trails are wonderful, some through meadows, others up on the ridge. Click this link for Roy’s Redwoods Open Space Preserve Trail Map.

Where: Nicasio Valley Road, 1/4 mile north of the intersection with Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, in San Geronimo. (map)

Parking: Along the road, no fees
