Once again, the Bay Area Discovery Museum has some popular annual holiday events in the lead-up to Christmas, Chanukah & Kwanzaa. Already underway are their gingerbread house-building workshops, otherwise known as their “Gingerbread Architecture Fundraisers”. But to the common eye, these are classic gingerbread houses, decorated with all sorts of candies and icings and bringing great happiness to the young and creative “architects”. I saw some being proudly borne away today accompanied by very wide smiles. These go on through the 23rd. (See schedule below and register online)
Next weekend on the 17th is a holiday concert by the hugely popular local musical group Dream Circle, with Tim Cain, Cindy Cohen-Levy, Judy Nee (Miss Kitty) and Christopher Smith. They perform holiday songs from around the world, from many cultures and faiths, and invite the audience to sing along as well. This event is open to ages 1 and up so the whole family can participate.
And, believe it or not, the museum will actually be open with FREE admission on Monday, December 26th, with a Kwanzaa celebration. What a great holiday gift from the museum to all of us. There will be two performances of “The African Roots of Jazz” in the Discovery Theater at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm and you must pick up the entry tickets (also FREE) when you enter the museum, because seating is limited.
