359. Mill Valley Beerworks

You may have heard about the two brothers who opened Mill Valley Beerworks, the microbrewery and café last year in downtown Mill Valley. The place has been a great hit and the brothers are expanding to increase the size of their brewing tanks and kitchen.  Word is they may even open early to serve coffee and pastries.

For now, it’s a simply wonderful place to hang out with a good friend or two and have a great meal, drink some excellent beer, cider or wine, and enjoy the ambiance they’ve created. The interior’s mix of somewhat industrial finishes on the walls and gleaming stainless steel brewing tanks, combined with the unfinished plain wooden tables and mottled plank floor is to me somewhat representative of the mix of clients you see there: riders in spandex fresh off their road bikes, moms with kids out shopping, friends and couples having a drink or a meal together.

Their menu is limited but the food is delicious and very well presented. One unusual item that is served with the sandwiches are lightly dressed jicama sticks, which are a wonderful combination of cool, sweet, crunchy and tangy – yum!
