Comforts, San Anselmo, is a great deli, bakery, cafe and hang-out, with both patio and in-door dining. The deli has a fantastic variety of prepared dishes, plus makes great sandwiches and salads, all for eat-in or take-out. On the other side of the counter, they have delectable pastries, cookies and other desserts, including a killer chocolate layer cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing. To complete the picture of across-the-board excellence, they serve top quality coffees and teas.

The atmosphere is perfect, with high ceilings, tables scattered across the front, newspapers and coffee finishing stations on the sides, and big plate glass windows looking out onto the sidewalk tables and pedestrians strolling down San Anselmo Avenue beyond. I’ve had many a meal or cup of tea (with pastry, of course) with lots of friends here, and always had a wonderful, relaxing time.

Their sit-down cafe is in an adjoining room, with breakfast and lunch served daily, and menus changing weekly, according to what’s fresh in the market.
